Ford has filed a patent application for a wireless electric vehicle (EV) charging system that uses cameras to detect objects that may interrupt charging. The system would alert the driver with flashing lights or sounds if any objects, particularly metal ones, are in proximity to the charging hardware. This warning system aims to prevent inadvertent triggering of reduced power mode or shutdown of the charging system. While wireless charging offers convenience and efficiency comparable to traditional plug-in charging, the main obstacle to widespread adoption remains cost, which the patent application does not address.
