GM follows Ford’s lead and adopts Tesla chargers

General Motors (GM) has announced that it will integrate Tesla’s electric vehicle (EV) charging standard, called the North American Charging Standard (NACS), into its future EV models starting in 2025. This move comes after a recent partnership announcement between Ford and Tesla. GM’s decision indicates a potential trend of automakers adopting Tesla’s charging standard. The agreement means that GM EV owners will have access to Tesla’s Supercharger network of over 12,000 charging stations across the United States and Canada. The integration of NACS into GM’s EVs aims to drive mass adoption of EVs and create a unified standard for North America. However, the partnerships between Tesla, GM, and Ford may further fragment the EV charging industry, as Europe has banned the use of NACS chargers in favor of the Combined Charging System (CCS).
